Open the VPN and the kill switch setting may be on the home screen. If a VPN client loses its connection to the VPN server for some reason, the kill switch feature prevents all internet access by all apps on the computer, phone or tablet. You think you are protected, but you are exposed. You would not know because web browsers and other software don’t care about the type of connection and let you carry on browsing the web or doing other things online. Now you have a standard internet connection with no VPN protection, which means that potentially, someone somewhere could be monitoring your online activities. For some unknown reason, the VPN disconnects – a glitch like this occasionally happens and you may not notice. ![]() You browse the web, check your email, message people and so on. ![]() You start a VPN and create a secure, private internet connection. Here is the problem: You might not notice when you switch. There is seamless switching from one connection to the other. They will use whatever internet connection is available and providing the internet can be reached, they will work. Software that uses the internet like web browsers, email, streaming apps, games, messengers and so on, don’t really care how you are connected to the internet.
